IB in the Middle Years Programmes

The aim of all International Baccalaureate programmes is from a diversity of young people to develop internationally minded young men and women. They need to recognise their common humanity and a shared guardianship of the planet as a life-long goal to help create a better and more peaceful world.
City Cite Focus
The focus of a City Cite program is an orientation to the city through experiential learning and strategic visits to city icons and institutions. A key part of programs is for small groups to complete a “rich task” that focuses on an important city based issue related to social equity or improving city infrastructure. In making connections with an IB program, City Cite aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and empathetic young people who can help to create a more equitable and peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Students are encouraged to become active in their communities, and become compassionate lifelong learners.
City Cite is a relevant addition to an IB MYP learning programme. The independent learning and inquiring nature of City Cite programmes lends its hand to developing the IB learner profiles and the aims of an MYP.
The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) information and main connections:
For students aged 11 to 16, this provides a framework of learning which encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. The MYP emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and to the real world.
The MYP is flexible enough to accommodate the demands of most national or local curriculums. It builds upon the knowledge, skills and attitudes developed in the PYP and prepares students to meet the academic challenges of the IB Diploma Programme and the IB Career-related programme.
Students are taught to think for themselves and to drive the learning process. Education is seen as a way of life and living. The IB is about creating a community of learners and improving professionalism within that community. Encouraging the caring, nurturing, altruistic qualities found in the learner profile.
